Obituary
Wesley B. Brents, Jr., 76, was called quietly home by the Lord in the early hours of October 9, 2025. He was born September 8, 1949, in Springfield to Wesley, Sr. and Mardella Brents.
Wesley accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age and sang in the church choir at Monroe Street Christian Church and then at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where he continued as a member prior to his illness. He served in the army for a couple of years, including a short time in Germany. He enjoyed music and sang in a couple of local bands back in the 60s including the Jr. Jive Kings and the Cavaliers. His green eyes were a draw to plenty of young ladies during that time as he crooned the songs of the time that the groups sang.
Wesley retired from Illinois Bell, and before becoming ill, worked as a server at the Golden Corral Restaurant. He did not meet any strangers but rather looked at everyone as close friends or family, with several of the younger workers at Golden Corral calling him, “Uncle Wes.” He was a joy to be around and always had a story to tell about this experience or that experience. The family often wondered if all his “stories” were true.
Wesley enjoyed relaxing and watching television and loved HGTV, the Food Network, as well as the old-time westerns, including John Wayne movies, Gunsmoke, Bonanza, and others. He would spend hours on end watching his
favorite shows.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother,
John Brents.
Wesley was loved by many and leaves to cherish his memories: son, Mark Earl; daughter, Erica; sisters, Joyce (Arthur) Galbreath, Mary Rowl, Doris (Mike) Williams, and Sherri (Reuben) Hubbard, brothers; Enos (Bernadette) Brents and George Brents; special nephew, Mike Griffin, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
