Joe Commer, Jr., 62, of Springfield, Illinois, died at 2:54 PM on Friday, January 16, 2026, at Springfield Memorial Hospital. He was born August 16, 1963, in Jackson, Tennessee, to Joe and Martha (Fenner) Commer, Sr. He was widowed to Marnel (Smith) Commer.
Joe Commer was a resident of Springfield, Illinois, for more than 45 years and worked for the Laborers Union Local 477.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Diane Commer.
Survivors include Joseph (Sharon) Commer, Jovanna Commer, Jodeci Commer, and Jonail Commer, all of Springfield, Illinois; eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Ann (Raymond) Bloe of Springfield, IL; two brothers, James (Michelle) Commer and Jeffery (Tashicka) Commer, both of Springfield, IL; four aunts, Louise (Harvey) Kemp and Tammi Fenner, both of Jackson, TN, and Mary and Mayzell of Springfield, IL; six uncles, Elija, Jerry, and David Fenner, all of Jackson TN, James Ware of Jackson, TN, and Lustor and Ezell Taylor of Springfield, IL; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
