Obituary

Alfred Brown, Sr., was called home to our Lord on March 4, 2026.

Alfred was born July 13, 1967, in Springfield, Illinois, to the union of George Brown, Sr., and Delois Brown. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and received formal education from Springfield High School and Joliet Junior College, where he was a star football player.

Outside of the football stadium, Alfred had a jump shot that was as smooth as he was and was always eager to remind the young kids he still had “it,” and he surely did. If he loved you, he would cross Heaven and Earth to reach you and ensure you felt that love. He lived life on his own terms, was well-known in the Springfield community, and was a caring, generous person to all who knew him.

He loved watching the Chicago Bulls of the 90s, hosting some of the best celebrations in town, listening to music by Tupac Shakur, and spending time with his family and friends. Alfred was a friend to those who did not have a friend and took time to provide for the less fortunate. He was a father figure to many young men and was a celebrity-like figure in the Springfield community for his leadership, athleticism, kindness, and generosity. He will be greatly missed.

Alfred was proceded in death by his father; George Brown Sr., brothers; Tracy Brown, Steve Speincer, and Fred McGrone.

He leaves to cherish, in his loving memory, his mother, Delois Brown (Springfield, IL); two daughters and three sons, Dejah Brown (Springfield, IL), Kameika Jenkins (D’Lo, Mississippi), Marcus Bell (Springfield, IL), Alfonzo Brown (Springfield, IL), and Alfred Junior Brown II (Alfred [Jaime] Kadesh) (Waukegan, IL); two sisters, Maggie (Rodney) Johnson (Springfield, IL) and Helen Lillie Boyd (Springfield, IL); four brothers, Harold (Rita) Lacy (Springfield, IL), John (Felicia) Brown (Springfield, IL), Gregory (Star) Johnson (Springfield, IL) and Jesse Watson (Springfield, IL); six grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
