Obituary

Mother Bertha Lee Groover Haynes was born on January 9, 1934, in Madison, Florida, to the late Mattie Groover Aikens and the late Henry Groover. She was the youngest of two daughters and was raised in the Jeslamb community of Madison County alongside her beloved sister, the late Lillie Haynes Riggs. Bertha attended the public schools of Madison County, where she developed the values of faith, kindness, and resilience that would guide her throughout her life.
At an early age in adulthood, Bertha accepted Christ as her personal Savior and united with Jeslamb African Methodist Episcopal Church. There, she served faithfully as a Stewardess and remained an active and devoted member until her health began to decline. Her love for the church and commitment to serving God were evident in the quiet strength and grace with which she lived each day.
Bertha embodied the true meaning of love. She was known for her gentle spirit, compassionate heart, and unwavering kindness toward family, friends, and neighbors. Whether near or far, she found joy in connecting with others. Her love flowed freely from heart to heart, and she gave of herself without hesitation. Her life reflected a deep and abiding faith, and she carried a radiant smile as she walked daily with God.
Her home stood as a place of warmth, fellowship, and hospitality. For more than fifty years, Bertha graciously welcomed family, friends, community leaders, and neighbors into her home. Anyone who crossed her threshold could feel the love that filled the room. She believed in bringing people together, and her presence enriched the lives of all who knew her.
On Friday, February 27, 2026, Mother Bertha Lee Groover Haynes peacefully answered the Master’s call and quietly entered Heaven’s gates. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Lillie Haynes Riggs; and her beloved grandson, Kendrix Haynes, Sr., who preceded her in passing at the age of 40.
Though her earthly journey has ended, the love and legacy she leaves behind will forever live on in the hearts of those who cherished her. Celebrating and honoring her beautiful life are her devoted children: Lucy Pride (Charles) of Tallahassee, Florida; Lugene Haynes, Jr. (Rev. Laverne) of Madison, Florida; and Yvonne Alexander (John) of Madison, Florida.
Her memory will also be treasured by her grandchildren: Natasha Haynes of Lauderhill, Florida; Shontavia Haynes of Valdosta, Georgia; and Candis Pride of Tallahassee, Florida; along with her nine great-grandchildren: Nytrell Martin and N’Zhai Gray of Lauderhill, Florida; Lamirka Haynes, Kendrix Haynes II, Tamyah Morrison, and Trejon Morrison of Valdosta, Georgia; and Lenkin Haynes, Legend Haynes, and Oasis Haynes of Lauderhill, Florida.
She also leaves a host of loving nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish the precious memories shared with her.
Mother Bertha’s 92 years were a testimony of faith, love, service, and quiet strength. Her legacy will continue to live on through the lives she touched, the family she nurtured, and the love she freely gave.
