Obituary
Lennox Garfield Davis (AKA Noxie and Lenny) was born on February 18, 1965, in San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago to Lennard Greenidge (Trinidad and Tobago) and Noreen Cynthia Davis (Grenada), both deceased. Two of his siblings, Ken and Lenore, passed away before him, leaving his only remaining sibling, Yolande.
Lennox obtained his formal education at San Juan Seventh Day Adventist School and Marabella Girls & Boys Anglican School. He continued his education when he migrated to the United States in the late 1979, having spent a couple of months in Puerto Rico before settling in Miami, and then in Opa Locka, Florida. He was a graduate of Miami Northwestern Senior High School, Class of 1985. During his educational journey he received numerous certificates including that of Auto Body.
As a child, which is difficult to believe for those who know him, he was happy and a bit shy and affectionately called "Noxie" by his mother. Lennox was a foodie, delighting in a variety of Trinidad and Jamaican delicious delicacies. His most favored include Indian foods like roti, curry chicken and rice, bara, …., oxtails with pigeon peas and rice—so much so that whenever it was cooked he had a healthy helping or two.
Lennox was employed at numerous businesses including Publix Supermarket on Miami Beach, and various laundromats and fast food chain establishments. During his employment, he was a diligent employee, always exhibiting good work ethics. He was loved and respected by those he served. His career was untimely cut short when he was diagnosed with the onset of diabetes early on in his life. This gentle giant battled with this disease for years before it debilitated him to the point where he could no longer work and had to seek nursing home rehabilitation for long term care to sustain his day-to-day lifestyle. Of notable mention is that even as he dealt with his inability to function as he used to, h never let that stop him from living his best life amid the pain in this new lifestyle which included limitations.
Embracing his new reality meant making do, as some people would say. In fact, because he was there so long he would often act as an advocate for many who did not understand nursing home protocol. If you needed to know about anything, he would be the go-to person. At the early years at Villa Marie Nursing Home, he flourished. He loved the numerous activities like Bingo and celebrating birthdays; on his birthday he would always request I purchase apple cider for him and his guests. He loved when the numerous churches visited, they went on bus rides, went to restaurants, shopped at the nearby store, and loved playing bingo with his fellow residents. He was so enthusiastic whenever he would win a bingo game you could hear him throughout the facility at the top of his voice saying, "BINGO! I have BINGO!" as he called out his winning numbers. Lennox always loved to watch the news (he needed to know what was happening), enjoyed reruns of old sitcoms, and watched the Miami Heat games and the like and knew the plays, players, and their scores.
Lennox this gentle giant (well, until you antagonized him), and loved giving gifts to others. He would make a list especially at Christmastime, which in most cases I would look like Mrs. Clause (laugh). He genuinely cared for others. He was a good man, you just had to know how to correspond with him.
Lennox (Lenny, Noxie) leaves behind precious memories with his family and friends: his sister, Yolande; nephew, DeVaughn Christopher and his family; the Sleights, Watkis family; and a host of others too numerous to mention.
