Obituary
Lafayette Brown III, affectionately known as "Coon" Brown III, was born on October 9, 1962, in Miami, Florida, to the late Jonnie Mae Brown and Lafayette Brown Jr., who both preceded him in death.
Lafayette was a devoted family man and a cherished role model to his siblings and loved ones. He was widely known for being a natural protector, always watching over those he loved with strength and loyalty. Lafayette had a vibrant personality and was known for his love of dancing, joking, reading, and sports. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and love.
He was also admired for his sharp sense of style and was often recognized as the best dressed wherever he went. In his neighborhood of Robin Hood (79th Street and 15th Avenue), Lafayette was respected as a big brother role figure to many of his peers, offering guidance, strength, and encouragement.
Lafayette attended Liberty City Elementary School, Arcola Lake Elementary School, and Van E. Blanton Elementary School. He later attended Horace Mann Middle School and proudly graduated from Miami Central High School, Home of the Rockets.
Lafayette Brown III began his professional career as a Miami Dade County School Bus Driver, where he safely transported countless children and served his community with dedication. He also worked for the Miami Beach Sanitation Department, continuing his commitment to hard work and service.
Lafayette's beautiful life will forever be cherished through his loving daughter, Shatavia Shanika Brown, and his beloved grandchildren, Prentiss Mataz Stovall Jr. and Kimora Lee Jones. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Anna Maria Brown and Rosia Glyndel Brown-Rose (Horace Rose), Brandon, FL, and his brothers, Jeffery "Pop" Brown (West Palm Beach, FL), Ricky "Slick Rick" Brown, and Wayne "Scrappy" Brown. He was preceded in death by his sister, Theresa Ann Levell.
He shared a deeply special bond with his nephew, Alan Kevin West Jr. (Punkin), his first-born nephew, whom he guided in understanding the importance of being a protector and a family oriented man. Lafayette was also preceded in death by his beloved niece, Shakeya Chantrial Brown, whose memory he cherished and kept close to his heart. He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by a host of other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, and dear friends, all of whom were touched by his kindness, generosity, and unwavering love.
Lafayette Brown III leaves behind a legacy of strength, love, leadership, and devotion to family. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
