Obituary
Kelvin Eugene Dukes, affectionately known as “Duke,” was born on June 9, 1963, in Miami, Florida, to the late William Dukes and Barbara McKinney Atkins. He was taught values at an early age and raised by his mother, Barbara, and the late Atmark Atkins in a loving home. Kelvin accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and attended New Bethel Church in Liberty City, Florida.
Kelvin received his education through the Miami Dade public school system and graduated from Miami Northwestern Senior High School. He then went on to Job Corps. After exploring several job opportunities, he decided on a career in the food industry. Yes, life presented its challenges, but Kelvin never gave up.
Kelvin was curious, witty, and fun to be around. He had a personality that was bigger than life. He had his favorite sayings like, “what you talkin bout,” and “they call me big poppa.” He was also known for his ironing skills and cleaning ability and sometimes referred to as Mr. Clean. Kelvin enjoyed the family gatherings, where he and his cousins would reminisce about things they use to do back in the day and growing up. Kelvin and Beatrice were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Tyniece Dukes, who preceded him in death.
Kelvin was given an assignment by God. Upon the completion of his assignment God said, “it is finished.”
He leaves to cherish his memories, a loving mother, Barbara “Bobbie” Atkins; sisters, Wanda (Orlando) Jackson and Devina Dukes of Philadelphia, PA; brother, Sheldon “Man” Atkins; granddaughters, Brenaya T. Dukes and Harmony J. Bash; aunts, Lois Dezmal, Rosalee Singleton (James) of Gainesville, FL, and Lillie Q. Odom; uncle, Charles “Pop” McKinney; niece, Regina (Dwayne) Uptgrow; nephews, Reginald (Natalie) Atkins and Jimmie (Kadeidra) Wideman; and a host of cousins.
