Obituary
Karen Elaine McKenzie-James was born on May 4, 1958, to Melvin and Lucinda McKenzie in Miami, Florida.
She was formally educated in the New Providence Educational System in the Bahamas. Karen later attended Miami Lakes Technical Educational Center, where she received her Certification in Culinary Arts.
On August 11, 1999, Karen joined the late Russell F. James, Sr., in holy matrimony.
Karen worked for the Miami-Dade public school system until she retired in 2010.
Karen accepted the Lord as her Savior and was a dedicated member of Lighthouse Ministries International under the leadership of Overseer Dr. Pamela Alphonse until her death.
She previously attended Shekinah Glory and Temple Missionary Baptist Church.
One June 23, 2025, Karen peacefully transitioned, joining her daughter, Samatha McKenzie; husband, Russell James; parents, Melvin and Lucinda McKenzie; and other friends and family members who preceded her in death.
Karen leaves behind to cherish her memories: her daughter, Jessica James; son, Gabriel James; two grandsons, Joshua McKenzie and Jamarious James; two great-granddaughters, Ka’mora McKenzie and Zeniya McKenzie; two sisters, Alice Glinton (Benjamin) and Bridgette Braye (Anthony); and a host of other family members, extended family members, and friends who will cherish her memories.
