A Life Well Lived
Estella Butler
Family find comfort in knowing that when the gates swing open, God has ordered my steps to walk right into his heavenly home. I’m safe in God’s arms. As you celebrate my homecoming, take a moment and reflect on the wonderful years we shared. I was born on January 20, 1934, in Barney, Georgia, to the late Walter Hill and Emma Henry. I completed my general education and proudly attended Morven Rosenwald High School, where I enjoyed playing and competing in basketball.
Growing up during the 1930s shaped me into a woman of strength, perseverance, and faith. I attended Rocky Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in Barney, Georgia and gave my life to Christ.
Upon completing school, I pursued courses in nursing education and became a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). I discovered early in life that I had a calling to serve and care for others, and I faithfully followed that path for several years. Caring for people was more than a profession to me it was an extension of the compassion God placed in my heart.
As life continued to unfold, I was led to Miami, Florida, where a new chapter began and my purpose continued to be fulfilled. I was blessed with an opportunity to work in the hospitality industry, eventually advancing into hospitality management. After 20 years of dedicated service, I proudly retired, grateful for the many people I encountered and the lives that touched mine along the way.
Throughout the years, I maintained a close walk with God. During life’s joys, I praised Him, and during the challenging seasons, I leaned even more deeply on my faith. My relationship with God remained my source of strength, comfort, and peace.
My desire to serve extended beyond my professional life and into my church. I was blessed to become a Deaconess at Morning Star Prayer Ministry Holiness Church, where I faithfully continued serving God and His people. My faith was not simply something I professed it was something I tried to live each day through service, perseverance, prayer, and love.
God blessed me with 92 years of life and allowed me to experience generations of love, family, faith, and treasured memories. Through every season, I learned that God’s grace was sufficient and his hands remained upon my life.
I leave behind to cherish the memory of my life well lived my three beautiful daughters, Angel (James) McNeil, Tanya (Jerome) Ivy, and Erika Butler; my stepson, Andre Butler; my sister, Christine H. Clarkson; my grandchildren, Pamela Baker, Benny Baker, Gerard Williams, Johnnie Hall, Jessika James, Caprice Ivy-Dozier (Jordan Dozier), Jasmine Ivy, James McNeil, Jr., Nikia James, Precious McNeil, Kiandre Hill, and Steven Gibson, Jr.; my great-grandchildren, Gabriella and Angelica Gonzalez, Jailyn, Jada, and Johnnie Hall, Jr., Samiya Ward, Zoey and Adelle Barron, Sureya McNeil, Ava Ivy-Dozier, and Promise McNeil; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, other extended family members, and many dear friends.
As I leave this earthly life, I will be reunited with my loving husband, Johnnie Butler; my parents, Walter Hill and Emma Henry; and my beloved children who departed before me, Modenia Baker, Jack Wims, Linda Chandler, and Johnnie Butler, Jr.
My journey was filled with both sunshine and storms, but through it all, God remained faithful. I served, I loved, I prayed, I persevered, and I trusted God.
My life was a testimony of faith, service, strength, and love and I leave knowing that the God who carried me throughout my journey has welcomed me home.
