Obituary
David Young, Sr., a loving husband and beloved father, was the oldest of five children born to Coatinan Carter and Lawrence Samuel Young on November 7, 1941, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
At an early age, he moved to Hahira, Georgia, where he was educated in the Lowndes County School System. David was a proud 1958 graduate of Webb Miller High School in Valdosta, Georgia.
After high school, David decided to enlist in the United States Army and remained there for two years. Following his military journey, David continued his education at Bethune Cookman College (University), majoring in biology.
He graduated with a degree in biology in 1966. Upon graduating from college, David obtained a job at the University of Miami as a marine biologist. He later was employed by various pharmaceutical companies as a pharmaceutical representative until his retirement from Pfizer in 2003.
David was deeply involved in many organizations in the community. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) of Hollywood, Florida. He served as a board member for several years with the Community Health of South Florida, Inc. (CHI). He was a life member of the NAACP. He also was a life member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., serving as the local president as well as on the district, regional, and national committees.
David was united in holy matrimony to Mildred Evans on December 28, 1974. To this union, one son, David Jason Young, was born.
Forever cherishing David’s precious and unforgettable memories are his wife, Mildred Evans Young; son, David Young, Jr.; two sisters, Lori Young of Lumpkin, Georgia, and Chalcie Young Carey (Randy) of Des Moines, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Cathy Evans Thomas, Lakay Evans, and Deveda Evans Bellamy (Edward), all of Greenville, Florida, Betty Evans Nealy (Joe) and Hattie Evans Alexander (Emmitt) of Jacksonville, Florida, and Renay Young of Atlanta, Georgia; one brother-in-law, Reverend Charles Evans (Margie) of Greenville, Florida; one uncle, German Mobley of Tampa, Florida; and many more loved ones.
