Obituary
Blanche Norwood was born February 17, 1951, in Savannah, Georgia, to Deloris Harryton and James Harryton, Sr., the first born child of five children. She grew up in Miami, Florida, where she attended Miami Jackson High School. Blanche attended Miami Dade Community College and later received her CNA certification from Careers Institute of Miami.
Blanche married Joe Nathan and had one daughter, Latasha Monique Nathan, who was the absolute love of her life. The devastation of Latasha's passing was tempered by the gratitude of being her mother. There was nothing Blanche loved more than being the mother of Latasha.
Blanche became a CNA, political activist, and union organizer. She worked at Treasure Isle Care Center for almost 50 years where she was a loyal, passionate, and deeply loving member of the care team. As a seasoned MPO of her union 1199SEIU, she helped to mobilize voters for several important elections. Blanche worked tirelessly to protect the rights and opportunities of union members.
Blanche was a faithful member of National House of God Church, where she served on various ministries. She often spoke of her love for the Lord and her love for her church. Her faith was unwavering and exemplified in her daily life. Her kindness knew no bounds and touched the lives of many with her selflessness and generosity.
Today, as we remember Blanche, we remember a fun, outgoing, helpful, and determined woman. She was extremely funny and often the life of the party. She loved shopping and fine dining. Blanche was her family's ambassador. The one who had continued contact, sending prayers, and speaking blessings over those she loved. Blanche was a woman who knew God and the power of prayer.
On September 27, 2025, Blanche was called home to be with her heavenly father. Blanche was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Harryton; father, James Harryton, Sr.; mother, Deloris Harryton; husband, Joe Nathan; and daughter, Latasha Nathan, all of whom she loved and missed dearly.
Blanche leaves to mourn: siblings, Frank Harryton, Dianne Milton, and James Harryton, Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family, and friends who will truly miss her.
